n April 2023, a Lions In Sight team of five optometrists, two opticians and eight Lions Club volunteers traveled to Monterrey, Mexico, for a two-day vision clinic in the city’s Santa Lucia community. The team served over 1000 patients during the clinic.

Monterrey is the capital and largest city of the northeastern state of Nuevo León, Mexico, and is located about a five hour drive from San Antonio, Texas. Monterrey is the second largest city in Mexico behind Mexico City. Various peaks of the Sierra Madre Oriental mountains surround the city.

The LIS team members came from Nevada, New Mexico, Tennessee and California to serve together in the very interesting Santa Lucia community. The Lions Club of Santa Lucia arranged for local nurses to provide medical screening. In addition to vision and medical screenings, several nonprofit organizations provided shoes and meals to the participants and their family members.

After the clinic, the team toured the city of Monterrey and took a boat ride down the scenic and popular Canal Santa Lucia waterway. They also toured the Estadio BBVA, Monterrey’s amazing football stadium and one of the sites for the upcoming World Cup.
